I embodied the idea of this work when my room was completely messed up.
Within the exhibition space, I hung a large, revolving disc with. several headphones
from the center of the ceiling. The walls were covered with my latest works and
the advertisements of the Arts Development Firm, an imaginary company of my own named after my last name that literally means "development". Listening to the noise of trains, the cry of whales and my own voice from the headphones, the viewers observed the works along with the movement of the disc.
By forcing people・ to look at the objects in one direction, I wanted to represent
human beings who stop thinking and feel safe to be passive in a powerful system. I
also distributed shopping bags for the viewers who canre to the gallery, although
there was nothing to put in them. "
Since this exhibition I have adopted "gray" color into my work as well as in my
private life to signify neutrality, anrbiguity and the Japanese.
